Tommy and Tubens' poetry after the outbreak of World War II and after years of their work with British intelligence, they found themselves useless and distant. Tommy was then approached by a secret agent named Grant to work secretly again. Grant tried to find Nazi spies and the fifth column but was hindered by paid agents in British intelligence who tracked him and obstructed his work. Since Tommy had not been in the field for several years, no one knew him, and he was able to investigate unofficially.
